The Sumatran elephant has gone from “threatened” to “seriously threatened”.Its population has been halved since 1985. So denounced by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main reason is the loss of 70% of its habitat in twodecades due to deforestation. The solution to avoid its extinction passed to stop the transformation of the territory to ensure the survival of this species. Butscientists say that if current trends continue, the Sumatran elephant could be extinct within 30 years.

This Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) has been classifiedby the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as an animal “in danger of extinction” within the Red List of Threatened Species. Today,surviving only 2400-2800 copies in the wild, a reduction of about 50% of the population in 1985.
