Spain scored an export volume of 222.643 million euros in 2012, the best figure of the series started in 1971. Foreign sales grew by 3.8% while imports fell by 2.85% to 253,401,000, which placed the coverage rate of the two, the percentage of imports covered by exports, at 87.86 %, a fact that is also unprecedented.

Data for log exports.
The Secretary of State for Trade, D. Jaime García-Legaz, explained that increased foreign sales “are due to greater competitiveness” consequence “of declining unit labor costs, increasing companies exporting and targeting new markets.”
Currently such exports are the engine of the Spanish economy and highlights the emerging economy nuesra competitiveness in foreign markets.
