Spain – Europe – Euro Area
The heads of states and governments of the euro area have begun to debate the issues that are on the table at this European Council where “no major decisions will be taken,” said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but if left closed all outstanding issues so that these decisions are made quickly.
The bailout of Spain, is a subject that is not part of the official agenda but that is the main concern of European leaders. Proof of this is the bilateral meeting French President François Hollande, has kept minutes before the start of the Council with Mario Monti, former, and Angela Merkel later.
Hollande has dealt with both leaders the question of “how to start the stability mechanism to allow Spain financed in good condition.” Former President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, the EU had noted that “respect the decision of Spain.”
Mariano Rajoy, has entered the meeting without comment. Government sources explained that no plans to hold any bilateral meeting with some of its European counterparts and that there will be, in principle, any reference to Spain in the conclusions of the summit.
