The planet earth is facing a “depletion of water” due to issues such as urbanization and economic activity in the major river basins of the world and the alarming warming of ocean waters, according to a UN report released today.
The document, prepared by the Institute for Water, Environment and Health of the United Nations University, based in Hamilton (Canada), entitled “Science-Policy Bridges over Troubled Waters” is the result of analysis of 200 major projects related global waterways.
This report, also participated in the drafting of the UN Programme for Environment and Global Environmental Facility, notes that in 2050 there will be a severe shortage of water in seven of the ten major river basins of the world.
